Description

La Malinche was born around 1500 in a region now known as Veracruz, Mexico.  She became a slave to the Mayan lords in Tabasco.  In 1519, Hernán Cortés received her as a gift from the Mayans, along with 19 other enslaved women.  La Malinche went on to become a translator and advisor to Cortés and the mother of his son, Martin.  Without the help of La Malinche, Cortés invasion of the Aztec empire would probably have failed. Your presenter is former BCA board member and long-time BCA member, Russ Carpenter, who has been doing research and collecting multi-media materials on La Malinche for ten years. Location:

BCA office, 8 Burruel Street, Tubac. Free event - donations welcome.
