Tuesday, December 3, 1pm, BORDERLANDS FORUM: “Mata Ortiz Potters & Pots”.  The pottery tradition of Mata Ortiz, at the base of the Sierra Madre Mountains of Chihuahua, Mexico, has, over the last few decades, evolved into a world class artistic phenomenon. The blossoming of artistic expression continues to amaze art aficionados and collectors from all over the world. We have the honor of bringing the delightful mother and son team from Mata Ortiz, Ana Trillo and her son Adrian Corona Trillo, two of the finest artists on the forefront of this amazing tradition, to Green Valley. They will demonstrate how they form pottery using the coil and pinch method (no wheel), and paint their pottery with designs influenced by the ancient pottery found at the Paquimé ruins of Casas Grandes, Chihuahua. In addition, Cathy and Marshall Giesy, who have been visiting the village for almost 40 years, will present a slide show and tell the history of the phenomena of the pottery tradition in the village as well as discuss BCA’s upcoming tour to Mata Ortiz, February 9-12, 2025. Location: United Methodist Church of Green Valley, 300 W. Esperanza Blvd. Free event, Pottery will be available for purchase. Registration requested.
