Travel with us and enjoy the majestic beauty of one of the world’s most unique destinations: Chihuahua, Mexico's Copper Canyon. The largest canyon complex in North America, it is a destination unlike any other! For those who love the unusual, seek adventure and want to learn about different cultures, this is a dynamic opportunity. At an altitude of 8,000 feet, the mountain peaks can be snow-capped in winter while the canyon bottom remains at tropical climate. You will witness daily life in two climates. Copper Canyon is the home of the semi-nomadic cliff dwellers, the (Tarahumara) Indigenous people, the least acculturated Amerindians.
Experience El Chepe, one of the most dramatic rail journeys in the western hemisphere, on a rail line that took 100 years to complete. Travel across bridges, through tunnels, and along sheer canyon walls as you descend from the high Sierra Madre to the lowlands. Arrive in the colonial river town of El Fuerte. Maybe even dare a zip-line ride over the canyon! Additionally we'll spend time in Casas Grandes, experiencing the unique pottery of Mata Ortiz and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Paquime; Chichuahua City; and Posada Barrancas on the north rim of Copper Canyon. From Copper Canyon we'll venture on to the colonial town of Alamos, Mexico for two days and then we'll spend two days in San Carlos, on the Sea of Cortez. The tour will finish with a historical tour of Hermosillo, Mexico, the capitol of Sonora.
