1st Annual Dan Anderson Memorial Borderlands Lecture
with Dora Rodriguez
Thursday, October 15, 5-6:30pm
We are proud to present the 1st Annual Dan Anderson Memorial Borderlands Lecture with Dora Rodriguez, writer and immigrant advocate, as our featured speaker. This is a free event. Donations are welcome. The event will be held at the Wittner Museum (204 N. Morley Ave, Nogales, AZ 85621).
About Dan: Dan Anderson was a founding board member of Border Community Alliance (BCA), writer, veteran and immigrant advocate, devoted father, husband and grandfather, and friend to all. Dan passed away in October 2024, and BCA has now created an annual lecture series to honor his memory through highlighting fellow writers and those who advocate for those underrepresented in our borderlands communities.
About Dora: In a life-saving attempt to flee El Salvador’s civil war in 1980, Dora Rodriguez was one of thirteen survivors found near death after crossing the Sonoran Desert in Organ Pipe National Monument in AZ. Through public speaking and advocacy, Dora educates communities about the dangers migrants face in the desert and works to inspire change in the face of injustice. Dora recently wrote her memoir, Dora: A Daughter of Unforgiving Terrain, which tells her journey from a childhood in Santa Ana, El Salvador, to collapsing in the desert, left for dead, and rising to become a humanitarian leader in the U.S. borderlands. Founder and Director of the nonprofit Salvavision, Dora sheds light on the brutal realities of forced migration—and the strength it takes to survive, rebuild, and serve others.
